Obsidian Properties (Markdown Frontmatter Enhanced)

Essays and updates on product, engineering, and AI by Chase Adams.

1 minute read

The most recent release of Obsidian allows you to view your Markdown YAML frontmatter as property fields.

This is a huge unlock for anyone who uses Obsidian properties for publishing or filtering with the DataView plugin.

Adding Properties To A Note

You can add properties to a note in one of two ways:

  • Click "+ Add property"
  • Use the command palette and choose "Add file property"
  • Use the keyboard shortcut "CMD + ;" (Mac) or "Ctrl + ;" (Windows)

I love how easy this update makes it to add properties to notes, especially since I use Obsidian to publish my notes to my website.
